Geographically Assam has a lots of variation in its terrain and thus the difference could be seen in its different parts. Considering these variations EFSLE has decided to split its Assam Executive Council in three different Regions:
Assam- West– This region is comprised of all the 13 districts of the Lower Assam Division including Baksa, Barpeta, Bajali, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Goalpara, Nalbari, Kamrup Metropolitan, Kamrup Rural, Kokrajhar, and South Salmara-Mankachar and Tamulpur districts.
Assam- Central South– This Region is comprised of three divisions of the state- North Assam Division (including the Four districts of Biswanath, Darrang, Sonitpur, and Udalguri), Central Assam Hills Division (including the Six districts of Dima Hasao, Hojai, Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Morigaon, and Nagaon) and Barak Valley Division (including the Three districts of Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj)
Assam- East – This Region is comprised of the Nine districts of the Upper Assam Division including Charaideo, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Sivasagar, and Tinsukia.
There are, in fact, three major Universities spread over these three distinctive regions:
Gauhati University- Assam West
Assam University, Silchar- Assam Central South
Dibrugarh University- Assam East
