Dr. Anwesa Chattopadhyay

 

Dr. Anwesa Chattopadhyay is an Assistant Professor of English at the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning, University of Kalyani, West Bengal.  As a student of English Literature at the Department of English, Visva-Bharati, and beyond, she has participated and presented papers at several national and international conferences, seminars and workshops. Her doctoral thesis on “Islamophobia and Crisis of Identity in Some Select Post-9/11 American Diasporic Fiction” has received considerable critical acclaim. Her areas of interest include British Romantic and Victorian Literature, Ecocriticism, Postcolonial Literature, Diaspora Studies, Translation Studies, and Literary Works in Translation. She has delivered invited lectures at different colleges in West Bengal. Since June 2025, she has been a part of the National Translation Mission (an initiative of the Government of India) and has attended a two-week intensive training programme at the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, from June 3 to 17, 2025. Apart from her contributions to academia, she nurtures a keen interest in travelling, reading, and writing across genres. She has several research articles, travelogues, essays, a book of short stories and a translated book to her credit. Her translated book, Yogis of the Himalaya, was published by Birutjatio Sahitya Sammilani in 2021 (ISBN: 978-81-953067-5-6). In December 2025, her book of short stories, Galpo-Swalpo (ISBN: 978-93-87787-86-5), was published by Boi-Ghar Santiniketan at the Winter Festival (Poush Mela) of Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan. Presently, she is working on some translation projects and writes regularly for the reputed Bengali and English journals and magazines on diverse topics.

She is a lifetime member of EFSLE and also an Executive Council Member (ECM) of its West Bengal (South) Region of West Bengal.
