Dr. Bondita Baruah

Dr. Bondita Baruah is Assistant Professor of English literature at the Department of English and Foreign Languages in Girijananda Chowdhury University, Guwahati, Assam. Her research focuses on Post-Colonial literature, Resistance Literature, Environmental Humanities, Gender, Liminal Spaces and Marginalities, Migration, Ethnicity and Identity, and Indigeneity. Her academic writings have appeared in reputed journals and books, including Routledge. Her co-edited books Building Resilient Futures: Gender and Climate Change in North East India (2025) and Asia in Perspective: Culture, Economy and Society (2025) have been published by North East Network (Guwahati) and Today and Tomorrow’s Printers and Publishers (New Delhi). She has previous teaching experience of almost seven years in Dispur College. Besides teaching and academics, Dr. Baruah engages in translation, creative and journalistic writings. She has been involved with translation projects for The New York Times, Stories Asia, Kraken Films and others and has translated chapters for books like The Game Called NRC and Baghjan. Her translated poem “Champawati” has been published by Zubaan in Riverside Stories: Writings from Assam (2024), her translated booklet of poems Her Spoken Words (NEN, 2023) cover issues of violence and gendered vulnerabilities in the North East and her translated short story “Touch” has been published recently by Xako publication in The Mind Doctor and Other Stories (2025). As a freelance writer working on humanitarian and environmental/climatic issues, her works have appeared in The New York Times, The Third Pole, Mongabay, The Wire, Scottish Centre for Global History (University of Dundee), The Assam Tribune, Stories Asia, among others.
