Dr Sunil Kumar is currently a Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Rashtrapati Nivas, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh and, he works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Foreign Languages at the Central University of South Bihar, Gaya Ji, Bihar. Dr Kumar’s academic credentials, including his M.Phil. and PhD degrees from The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, have equipped him with a nuanced understanding of contemporary literary and cultural theories. His research articles have been published in reputed journals, including the South Asian Review, Research and Criticism, Gnosis, Glocal Colloquies and The EFL Journal in the areas of Environmental Humanities, Contemporary Fiction Studies, and Posthumanism, showing his commitment to interdisciplinary research and its applications. As a Fellow at IIAS, he is working on an interdisciplinary research project titled “Eco-Pathologies of the Indo-Gangetic Plain: Literary and Cinematic Representations.” This project aligns with his scholarly interests in Contemporary Fiction, Environmental Humanities, and Medical Humanities. His extensive teaching experience in courses such as Ecocriticism and Environmental Sustainability, Indian and Western Literary Theory, Novels in English, Postcolonial Literature, Gender Studies, and Contemporary Fiction has endowed him with a profound understanding of the theoretical frameworks and critical methodologies pertinent to this project, thereby enriching his analytical acumen and scholarly expertise. The project critically examines the intricate relationships between environmental degradation and human health in the Indo-Gangetic Plain, as represented in select Indian literary and cinematic narratives. Its interdisciplinary approach within the emerging field of Environmental Humanities aims to generate insights that can raise environmental awareness, influence policy, and inspire sustainable practices, fostering hope for meaningful societal impact.
He is a lifetime member of EFSLE and also an Executive Council Member (ECM) of its Bihar (West) Region of Bihar.
